So I think I hurt my trans... No I know I hurt it, the question is really how bad.. So while I have owned this truck (2004 Chevy Tahoe 4x4, 5.3 flex fuel) for about 6 months, I have only put on about 2,000 miles. This truck is really is used to tow my 27 foot camper, and it does it well. Since I have gotten the truck the 1-2 shift has been a bit harsh, but other then they the trans has performed well. UNTIL, yesterday.. I was driving the truck by itself (no trailer). I got ticked off at the guy in front of me, hit the gas harder then I normally would and as soon as it down shifted I knew something was wrong so I got out of it. Now any shift above about 1/4 maybe 1/2 throttle is sloppy and weak, she is slipping in 4th (at least) and over all just not a happy camper. With that said when being driven gently its not that bad.. Today I drove her about 150 miles mostly at 75'ish on the highway with no issues as long as I was light on the gas.

So I blew something obviously, the question is could I be lucky and it just be a solenoid or is the transmission toast??

Thanks

It will need to be gone through most likely. Sounds like something internal.

Clutches? Check your fluid for a burnt smell, dark in color. The weight of a Tahoe places a lot of force on a transmission that has little extra capacity even when new.

So I wanted to update y'all. A rebuild would have cost me $1800... The trans behaved to well under light acceleration to be shot I thought. It just felt that the trans was loosing pressure. So I figured it was worth the effort to replace the $30 pressure solenoid. Which I finally did today. The fluid looked strange, it was not milkshake pink, but it was very cloudy. Replaced the filter while I was in there, and the screen on the old pressure solenoid was all clogged up with something.

Long story short the trans feels like it did before the down shift, and I think I saved myself $1800... I have to put some more miles on it to know for sure.

I'm thinking about replacing the other solenoids as well, just in case. Should I ???
