It's the drive by wire enhancer that I mentioned before.
Anyone install something like this? Would a non-BB tuner do the same thing?

Yep. They definitely are prone to failure. My dad has owned an 07 Sierra and currently owns a 12 Sierra. Both had AFM. To my knowledge, he never had an issue with the 07. The 12 though, has been in the shop twice. The first time he brought it in, they only changed the lifters on one side. Right after he got it back, it started acting up. The other side had failed, because they didn't change both sides while it was in the shop.

So, if his 07 didn't have a problem with them, but the 12 did. I will give you 50/50 odds on AFM not experiencing a failure.

I wanted to go with a BB tune, but unfortunately it will cost around $600 for a 2010 or later. I was sad. I bought a Range plugin for now. No BB tuning sessions near me anytime soon

That sucks! Being that your's is that new though, you could have it tuned at any reputable tuner near you. You could also wait for BB to schedule tuning sessions near you, if you want to wait that long.

My friends are in similar situations. A 10 yukon twice in shop for lifters. Another 09 silverado, with afm, has had no issues.

Had an '07 Denali XL with the 6.2 and pretty sure there was no AFM. If so it was the best ever because you couldn't tell. That said, the BB tune had so many benefits (throttle response, shift points, mileage, towability) that I was not able to replicate with a hand held.

Wait a little longer and spring for the BB. My game plan for the '17.

I could be wrong, but AFM may have only been used on the 5.3. Both of my dad's trucks were 5.3's.

nah its definitely on 5.7's. I have it in my 11 tahoe and want to get rid of it. Didnt know BB tune was that expensive .
