That's another good point. The weak link on these is the torque converter lockup clutch. And when it fails, it sends shrapnel through the transmission and cooler lines.

The first time I did the pan drop I installed a drain plug in it. The exhaust is in the way but if you have a light jack you can jack the exhaust down from the body and give just enough room to get the filter out.

Yes I changed my tranny fluid twice and both times I had to bend exhaust a little so bottom pan can come out without damaging sensors/internals

The codes and the rough 2-3 shift tell me that the valve body has to come out to have the new check balls and other bits replaced on the bench with your kit. At that point, you'll be replacing the fluid anyway. In my opinion, new fluid alone isn't going to resolve the shifting problem you're having.
hey - any way you can point me in the way of where i can purchase a new set of check balls? i’m having some trouble tracking them down. i’m only coming across a full valve body overhaul kit that includes them with it & not just the check balls themselves.

thanks again !!!

Good Luck!

thanks again.

I have seen guys that say unbolting the rear tranny mount, and then putting a jack on the tail of the tranny, will lift the tranny just enough to get the pan out clearing the exhaust. I have not done this, but have seen it done on a couple youtube videos.

Also, if you know for sure you are going to be replacing the tranny pan for one with a drain. I would drill a hole into the bottom of the old pan, and let it drain.. way less mess.
