If it was warmer out I would but it's around 30 this time of year now, used one of those repair estimate sites which have been pretty accurate in the past looks like for around $546 they can do the intake and valve cover gaskets

Use the fel-pro metal gaskets with the rubber inserts. A lot beefier than the plastic ones.

Update: dropped it off at the shop, fuel pressure is good, not a blown head gasket, MAF and TB are clean, double checked the plugs and wires I did, checked the coil packs, everything checks out he drove it around a bit drives fine minus the idle, checked the top of the intake for leaks and nothing thinking the bottom might be leaking so gonna go ahead and replace it and see what happens it's got 160k on it who knows if the updated intake gaskets were ever done

Were updated intake gaskets used by gm? If so, should I change them in my 05 motor with 110,000 on it? Just want to avoid doing work twice to it.

Yup these are the updated ones, original ones were an orange color, Felpro makes some too

Before you drop the engine in I'd say do it, beats having to do it down the road

That's what I figured. I'll tell you what tho, all this preventive maintenance that I'm going to do to the 6.0 is adding up substantially! How can you tell if the 6.0 has the updated gaskets? Probably no way unless intake is pulled I bet. Thx

Honestly pulling it is the only way unless someone else knows a trick

The metal Fel-Pro gaskets work well and have a wider sealing surface than the factory gaskets. They’re reasonably priced too.

I recently put them on the 5.3L in my ’02 Silverado that has 215k miles. No more leaks.

X2 on doing the knock sensors while your in there, with the bad gaskets on your truck did you just notice it at idle? Or at speed too?

I had a pretty good oil leak from the valve covers and the valley cover gasket, so I replaced the intake gaskets and knock sensors while I was in there. I had a slight stumble at idle, which has gone away since the reseal. However, I cleaned the throttle body and IAC actuator so that may have been the problem. I didn’t have any stumble at speed.

I would recommend changing the knock sensors as well as the knock sensor harness while you’re in there. The rear knock sensor in this engine was completely submerged under water and pretty rusted. The rubber plugs in the factory harness had shrunk and turned hard like plastic, allowing water in.

Good luck with yours and let us know how it turns out.
