Inside door handle - when I pull it it, won't open...

Its not the interior door handle itself thats broken internally is it?

Or is it like the older Chev's with the metal rods that open the door/locks and attached by those nylon/plastic fittings - that wear/break?

Any hints/tips before I take the panel off?

Thanks guys

Common. Brother has it going on in his 99 Tahoe, and there was a guy at work with the same problem. LoL brother hasn't had the time to remove the door panel so I don't know what you will be looking for, I do know that they do use the metal rods to open and close the doors.

Mine worked like crap, so i bent the rods. worked great. then 3 months later they quit again. the cast part of the handle literally had snapped. then i needed a new $20 handle that i got from any parts store.

Yes, they're the metal rods that latch on to the door handle from the inside.

Probably just popped off. You need to buy the right ( not sure what it's called, but it goes on the female end of the internal handle, for out sake let's call it a "dental dan" so the male end will stay hooked on.

It's the inner door handle itself. We replace a least 2-3 a month on the Chevy trucks at my shop. The handle is potmetal and stretches after time. It will eventually just snap off like Tahoegoboom said. Replace the handle and also look at your pins and bushing on the door hinges. Many times the bushing are going out so the door is mis-aligned and you have to work harder to open it. Hence pulling harder on the handle and streching it more.

Thanks guys...I suspected it was that.

I will pop that baby off and replace it this weekend.

Thats good you mentioned the "pins and bushings" too, cuz that does play a big part in it - which happened a lot with my 80'/81' Z-28's with those long and HEAVY doors....ahhhh the 80's:hands:

No problem. Inner handle is rivited in place so be prepared for that.

Ahh Z-28s good times, good times.

Ok pulled off the door panel tonight.

Replaced mirror too.....AND lost my friends swivel socket inside door frame somewhere:emotions122: What a damn pain....

Ok - so drill the rivet BUT HOW do I re-attach? Self -tapping screw?

AND what about that other thing to right of rivet - see pics....

As you can see - cheap pot metal handle broke....

And you can also see in pics - my lil girl waiting patiently for dad to go to park:)
