I had that exact same ******* issue!!!! I cut it down. I was really disappointed.

Got a pic of how you cut it? I'd rather have it look all jacked and hold the grime/moisture in then cut it and have it drain on my carpet. I'm trying to keep the salt off.

Found my leak! It was the oil pan gasket. Also there in a new CV and a couple other things while we were at it.
