Well I took a look under the valve cover this morning and there is quite a bad sludge problem. The valves are all but completely buried. I'll be back home this afternoon after class so I'll see if I can figure anything out. As you can probably tell I don't have very much experience working on cars so this truck was meant to just be a fun project and a learning experience, so any advice you guys have at all is great!

Well seeing as it won't turn over, it's not hydrolocked, and the valves are buried in sludge, it's not looking too good so far. The engine may have seized up from oil starvation caused by sludge blocking the oil flow. Pretty much a vehicular heart attack. Post up some pics if you can, I've never seen a bad sludge problem and am quite curious to what it looks like. :) plus, some of the more knowledgable guys on here can probably give a little insight on it too...
OR MAYBE....
Its was fine and just sat around for a while, and just needs a good cleaning/rebuild. I say if it's not something you need right away, and its for a fun learning experience, get yourself a Haynes manual and take you're time tearing the motor apart. Have fun with it.

unknown at this time.
I would like to see pics if possible as well as bottom end. Honestly sounds like the engine maintenance for oil was never done. It has probably plugged the filter and bypassed it already letting the solid debris in the the oil galleys.

Alright guys I'll post some pictures when I go home this weekend. I think one of my buddies is comin over Saturday and we're just going to spend all day taking this thing apart. I bought the online version of the Haynes manual and just looking through it looks like it will come in handy. I'm thinking I should probably pull the engine out, any suggestions on a good place to either rent or buy an engine hoist? Or is it even worth it to pull the engine out?
