Haha yeah I have a feeling I'll be getting a new engine. If I could find a 454 how much harder would it be to put that in? I know I would need to get the 4l80e transmission as well.

Sir, you may have just bought yourself an OBS tahoe with a nice paperweight installed under the hood.

In all seriousness, that IMO is REALLY REALLY bad. I doubt it's worth saving.

As for the motor, I don't know much about 454 conversions, but have you looked at the 383? Its a very nice crate motor and a direct drop in.

After spending all day on it I've almost managed to get the engine out. Everything is disconnected and out of the way except the transmission, which I'm not really sure how to disconnect. I can see that the 6 bolts holding the bellhousing to the engine will have to come off, but how do I disconnect the rest of it?

remove the inspection cover and unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate.

Thats what I was thinking, but it seems like I will need to be able to rotate the engine in order to gain access to each bolt. Or would it be possible to somehow use a box-end wrench?

But doesn't the flywheel turn with the engine, so if the engine is locked up it wouldn't turn?
