Just wanted to post a thread on how my install of the GMX550 went to help some people decide whether or not they want to use this product. I purchased a used one from Autbond on this board to install on my 2008 Tahoe Hybrid. (Just want to say that Autbond was a great guy to work with!) We had a problem with the iPod chord after I got the lockpick and Autbond went above and beyond to make sure I was happy. The install went very smoothly except for a bad pin on the iPod connector which temporarily inhibited the video function on the iPhone.

THE GOOD:

I think this little device is awesome and have been happy so far! It works as described and hasn't given me any problems once I completed the install properly. The DVD in motion works perfectly and hasn’t had a single problem with that aspect. The reverse camera works great as well, took the pick below to show the truck in drive and the camera functioning. I really like this function and can see using it when I am pulling the boat.

IPod Video function is a really cool feature as well. I can get any video up on the Nav screen from the iPhone and even play videos from websites like YouTube or Netflix.

I wanted to show a couple of pics of how the music looked from the ipod on the OEM screen as well.

This first one is a terrible picture (sorry) of how the menu looks:

Ipod1.jpg

You can use the steering wheel controls to navigate around in here as well fairly easy.

The next pics show how music played on the "iPod" (iPhone music app) looks on the screen:

You can actually use the steering wheel controls and radio knobs to navigate around in Pandora as well, like skipping to the next song. Here is how Pandora will look:

A notification will even pop up on the screen when you get a text message:

Or your caller will show up as well even though it will distort (fatten) the picture you have for that person. Yes my wife's nickname is shorty, and I don't pronounce is Shawtttyyy.

What picture looks like on iPhone when she calls:

THE BAD:

All in all I am pretty happy with the device but it does have its quirks. It like using an older version of windows compared to an iPhone. You have to learn a few things like:

1. Pressing the mute button four times takes a little practice before you get used to the speed in which you are supposed to do it.

2. Getting a video to play from the iPhone seems to take a couple of tries or at least the first few times it did.

3. I wish the iPod "in" thing did revert to off when you shut the car off.

Really that’s been about it.

THE UGLY:

I had the same experience with Coasteltech as everyone else had I think. This place does not seemed to be concerned with keeping repeat customers. I did have a great experience dealing with a tech support guy named Carlos who even gave me his direct number if I had any problems. This guy was awesome and did whatever he could do to help me. That was until he was blocked by his management to do anything else. (Getting the IPod chord replaced problem). I considered myself well-mannered on the phone and the sells department treated me with little respect and was very versed on explaining why they can't provide support for me since I purchased the Lockpick from an Amazon seller. I can see there point to an extent but I was more than willing to "pay" for a new chord and they said they still couldn't do that.

It was very obvious that actual "product" support was off the table after the sell. The guy just really left a bad taste. So know that going in to this; you are on your own. I think that is the actual term that person on the other end of the phone told me.

THE VERY UGLY:

Man the people I bought my Hyhoe from had me fooled. This thing was spotless when I picked it up but here is what I found when I pulled the seat to get to the rear camera wire.

Glad your happy with it. I personally hate mine. I also experienced the same ****** customer service from coasteltech. I will never buy a product from them ever again.

Felix, after dealing with them I to don't think I would ever buy a product from them as well. It was used and cheap though so I thought I would give it a shot. If Autbond wouldn't have been selling it I think I would have taken your advice and gone the Nav-Tv route.

I love my 550 in my Escalade, I want to hook up the factory rear cam but do you have to take your seat out to access it and do you have to buy additional wire to make it reach. Do you splice the 2 wires together or unplug the factory and plug the one in from the lock pick.
Thanks

I took out the seat to do it. I supposed it would be possible to do it with it in there but you would need some tiny hands. Fours bolts to take the seat and unclip the electrics so no big deal. Your will need extra wire to reach the rear camera chord and your just cut and connect the lockpick wire.

I have a few problems with my GMx550....first off my settings dont save on mine not sure if the settings are supposed to save or not.

everytime I turn the car off I have to go back through and re-trun on the DVD IN motion, IPOD, AUX/AV, & Navigation.

One other thing I have a problem with is that I my IPOD doesnt display my album artwork, doesnt play my videos either. Has anyone else had this problem? The only thing I Remember is that there was one part of the wiring harness from the lock pick harness that isnt connected up. It was the one with a brown plug that has the Green, purple, brown wires and VIDEO Output on it. That is just hanging back in there unconnected. I wasnt sure if this was something that comes on the OEM Wiring harness with those that have Factory installed GM NAVI from the factory.

Also want to mention that I do have an 07 Tahoe LT without the rear entertainment setup. I have the GM DVD dual monitor headrest installed.

I would check the Ipod chord where it connects to the Lock Pick. Make sure you dont' have in bent pins.

What kind of iPod is it? My iPod classic only controls from the iPod itself whereas a UI pops up for my iPad, iPod nano, and iPhone that can be controlled from the steering wheel and factory nav buttons.

Also it's not just you. Every time you turn off the car all your settings reset. Plus your over ride on navigation will cause it to show a bad location until you turn that feature off. Which sucks ass!! I'm tired of pressing mute 4x just to turn iPod, nav, and DVD lock pick functions on and off!!

I have the IPOD Video 64gb one......thats the one I leave in my tahoe. My old g35 I had kenwood DDX-8019 and never had a problem with it at all. I love the look of the OEM NAVI in the vehicle which is why I purchased that along with the IPOD interface and Lockpick setup. I was going to try my ITOUCH next and see if it displayed. I tried changing the video settings out on IPOD VIDEO and didnt make any changes.
