I had it uninstalled and shipped back and they sent me a brand new unit. Got it reinstalled and everything works again. I actually have a lock pick in both my escalade and avalanche and regret getting it. Wish I would've went with NavTV.

What firmware version is on the new units you guys are getting? My GMX550 shows 1.4, but the update page online only shows 1.3. I took mine out several months ago because the navigation was flaky even without using any of the lockpick features. I'm scared to put it back in cause I haven't heard of anything getting better.

GMX 550 is horrible

I have a 2007 Yukon Denali and I have had nothing but problems with mine. I have had it installed since 3/2009. Coastaletech customer service is horrible!! Carlos, the tech support guy is great though. I ordered mine from a 3rd party and Crappy Coastaltech will not warranty it even though it is their product. The 3rd party said I could send it back and they could test it out? How in the hell are you gonna test it out?

My issues are Navigation is flaky, doesn't work consistently. Lately the navigation doesn't know where I am. Sometimes the Override option in the GMX switches from 3 to 2 and screws it all up. My latest issue is when I connect my iPhone 4s it will play the music but won't display anything on the screen. My other bug is now DVDs won't play on the front screen. I have just about had it with this product.

My game plan now is to pull a slick move. I will order a new one from a 3rd party, then return my old one. My old one will then be sent from the 3rd party to Costaletech and they can deal with it.

My firmware version is 1.4 but the site says 1.3. When you check the update link, it takes you to a dead page.

This will be my very last purchase from the USELESS company who only cares with selling and not supporting their product. I had an old GMX 320, and I upgraded to the GMX550. I had less problems with that although it had less functionality.

Yep the product and company sucks. I completely agree and wish I would've never bought one. Unfortunately I jumped the gun and bought two!!

Same issue

well I had the dreaded "NO WORKING ANYTHING THIS MORNING" after starting the car....wierdest thing..started the car and complete Audio was gone...turn signals wouldnt make the clicking noise, no radio, navi, nothing on display....played with the 4 button mute thing to try and get anything to work...of course PARK ASSIST OFF DISPLAYED on the menu screen the whole time....after my sons soccer game was over came back in and started the car and sure enough everything was working as normal again....

Same issue with a 2009 Chevy Silverado LTZ with factory NAV. Called Coastal and was told by their tech support that it was a connection issue... instructed to de-install and check all connectors and re-install... No joy, it still fails intermitted. Seems to be related to power surge when using the drivers power window controls… use them to put all windows up, then shut truck off, turn back on and you get the black screen on the factory radio/nav/dvd head-unit. Turn truck on and off a few times,,, comes back again eventually.

Since this seems to be a common issue, has anyone been able to get it fully resolved? If so what was done (replacement of GMX550?, connecters bad?

Have you tried ejecting the disk from the cd/DVD player? World every time for me. Of course you have to have a disk in there.

cant eject ... head unit never powers up

Eject button does not respond, head unit does not power up when this happens.

update: today it finialy came to life after turning truck on/off several times,, this time it said there was a comunications issue with the XM, head unit did not show the XM tab. I unplugged the main connector to the GMX550 and plugged it back in... XM came back, everything working again 'for now'

I had the same symptoms and when removing the lockpick everything worked again. It was the lockpick unit...

I was told by coastal tech that if the unit acts weird, disconnect the battery and reconnect. It is like a re-install. Drains residual power in the unit and it does a full reboot. Just turning off the car doesn't always do it. I've had to do that once as it wouldn't respond until I did.

I guess I got lucky. I installed my GMX-550 in Jan 2012 and the only issue I have is my ipod itself. It is a 2ng GEN model so nothing shows on my Nav screen. I have to switch playlists manually. I guess I could upgrade it sometime and fix the issue. :D
