longer bolts for lifting keys

at my friends shop the other day he told me a guy from another shop said that in order to get more outta the stock keys he would get a longer bolt and notch the top of the brace that the keys are in.so that with the longer bolt and the top notched out the key can go up higher.anyone ever hear or do this.only thing i think with that is that it would put more stress on the torsion bar.or will it do the same as an aftermarket lift key.

It would push it to the point that the bolt would no longer be pushing squarely into the indentation and the key could just kick the bolt out to the side. So yeah you could try it but notching that crossmember probably isnt the greatest idea either.

There is no extra stress on a t-bar. All you're doing is rotating the t-bar...

The guy from another shop isn't the smartest cookie. I wouldn't do that...too much risk & keys aren't expensive. Get new keys...do it right.

I wouldnt cut / weld / modify that crossmember for anything. Keep in mind to get the key out you need a 7 ton puller, not a 5 or a 3, and thats at full droop. The cross member is prob the most stressed part in the whole suspension.

do it right, get Keys. cake install too. dont ever go back to that shop either!
