Well, I don't know if this is normal, but tonight is the first time I've noticed this.

I've got a 2011 Yukon XL with just over 1400 miles. It's got the 6.0L. Here are a couple problems that I'm seeing with it. Don't know if they're related or not.

1. Once the engine is up to operating temperature, the oil pressure drops to just over 20 PSI. Seems a bit low to me.

2. When the vehicle is in gear and at idle with my foot on the brake, the engine seems to cycle up and down about 50-100 RPM every few seconds. It is accompanied by a noticeable vibration in the seat and steering wheel. It doesn't seem to matter if I've got the air conditioning and stereo on or if everything is off. When the engine jumps up to the higher RPM, the vibration pretty much goes away.

Here's a quick video of what I'm talking about. You really can't see the vibration, but you can see the oil pressure gauge at 20-25 PSI. You can see towards the end of the video, I rev the motor and the oil pressure jumps up there.

I'd appreciate some insight on what you guys think? Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

1) The oil pressure looks about like mine does on my 05. It sits between 20 and 40 when warmed up and idling and jumps to almost 80 when the RPMs get high. I think the pressure is lower when using synthetic oil as well (or at least on my 05 it is).

2) I have no idea what is going on with your idle, but it sure does not seem right...especially with only 1400 miles. I would probably take it back to the dealership and try to reproduce the issue.

Have you done your first oil change yet and if so what did you put back in and what filter did you use?

I haven't changed anything yet.

I did do some searching on the web and found that pretty much everything is normal. So, I'll continue to drive and monitor it.

Albert, may I suggest reading the following thread. It gives LOTS of information and viewpoints. I of course have my opinion but even more there are others with their own convictions as well. Bottom line.....approach it with an informed decision. Congratulations, welcome and enjoy your new Yukon.....I know I love my '07.

Hello,

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. With the vehicle being new, I would consider taking it into the dealership while it is under warranty and having them take a look at it. Please let me know if I can be of any help in this situation.

I had the same problem with my 2011 Tahoe LTZ with the 5.3L. It has 2800 miles on it and since i had it i noticed that at idle every minute or so i feel the truck vibrate a little and the RPM needle drops about 100 RPM, almost like a misfire.

Well upon driving home from work yesterday my engine light came on while on the freeway, i didnt notice any change in the performance of the vehicle. I hit the OnStar button and they did a diagnostic for me and said that the code came up as a misfire.

My Tahoe was brought into the dealership this morning at 7a.m., i should be getting a call shortly as to what the problem was and what corrective action they took.

I'll let you know whats happened when they call me.

Oil pressure sounds normal. I have three GM cars, one 5.3 and two with a 6.2 and all do the same.

Idle does sound off somewhat. My Denali's engine is smooth as can be. The Vette's has a lumpy idle somewhat.

What kind of gas are you using. If you are going with a low name brand then I would switch to Chevron or something to see if that fixes it.

Take it to the dealer and have them look at it.

So i just got my Tahoe back a few hours ago and the dealer was able to go into the computer and find that i had a misfire on the #5 and #8 cylinders while i was doing 70mph on cruise control. They said there was a recent GM bulletin for 2011 vehicles stating to check spark plug wires to make sure there fastened properly and also to do a pressure test on the injectors. My dealer did both and found nothing wrong with my vehicle.

They cleared the code and drove it for 30 miles trying to see if they could duplicate the problem and get the light to come on....of course it didnt come on. They released the vehicle back to me and said that they feel it maybe was a computer glitch or maybe some bad fuel.

I buy my fuel on a military base which i have been doing for the past 13 years and never had a problem with any of my vehicles when it comes to fuel. My Tahoe only has 2800 miles on it so we"ll see if it comes on again.

Sorry i couldnt be more help.

2010 yukon denali.

at highway speeds my oil pressure was at 40psi with regular oil--- i took it in for its first oil change i went with synthetic and tires rotated at highway speeds, the oil pressure drop was maybe 1-2 psi lower and a little lower while idling, but not anything to worry about-- i also used my own oil filter-- decent service tire rotated, and synthetic oil with mobil 1 for $63 and they put on my own oil filter i purchased-- not too bad and a decent wash- which lasted about 1 block in the michigan snow.
