The windings are coated in a plasticy wax stuff, anyway. Unless you like to see them contrast with the painted case, spray bomb dat ish.
I just don’t want it flaking off and looking all splotchy later like it does on rubber pieces that don’t get masked off. Maybe overthinking this but I try to be careful when I’m painting stuff.

You can take the casing totally off if you really want to. Getting the back off requires undoing some solders or crimps though, wasnt worth it to me

Ok I got the pulley off but how did you pull the front case off? Did you have to use a puller because of the bearing? I’m not sure if I shouldn’t just clean and paint without disassembling this thing. It’s off my 08 so I need it to work when I’m done lmao.
Edit: never mind, figured it out. Sorry didn’t mean to jack your thread.

I pulled the case apart on an alternator earlier in the year to have it powder coated and even with a new bearing pressed in it squealed so I used my lifetime AutoZone warranty and got a new one. Really not sure why it squealed everything was aligned perfectly but it was unbearable.

Bummer. I separated the case and the stator stated in the front half. I tried to bang it out with a dead blow but it wasn’t happening so I’ll just paint the 2 halves as is. I can mask almost everything now except the back half of the windings but I’m not gonna desolder shit.

With the case apart is it possible to slide something between the back half of the case and the windings to serve as a mask? I was thinking maybe some playing cards or thin plastic.
