I have a 95 Tahoe and for aslong as I had it the glove box hasn't worked all that well pretty much had to just close it and never use it cause its a pain to close the latch still works but it looks like my problem is I have no glove box saftey cable it clips in the side of the box then attaches to the bar, I have looked at the rest of it and everything else looks fine, so if you happen to not have this cable would the glove box not close right/at all? and does anyone know if that cable is a part you can order at the dealer? gonna call latter and see just wondering how id go about fixing this....thanks for the help

Cable should be gettable but it should not keep your box from closing unless there might be something wrong with the latch it self.

Im not trying to thread jack but how do you remove the glove box? My left hinge broke but it looks repairable. Does it come off easily or it is a pain?

95 was still the old style square dash right?

I took apart my entire dash and swapped in a new painted dash, I can attest that the glove box cable missing should not affect it properly closing. It just stops it from going too far when you're opening it. It sounds like its either not properly aligned or that latch is not functioning properly. The latch mechanism does uninstall from the glovebox door itself, but I'm not sure it can necessarily be adjusted.

After opening the box and letting it hang, one at a time flex the upper corners with the hanging rubber bumpers to wards the center of the box. Swing it down farther and it should come of the hinge(s).

ordered the cable today, I took those felt things off the part that attaches to the dash on either side and it closed up fine, I never really use it cause sometimes when you open it up you never get it to close, everything looks good, before when the felt was on the pass. side door side would come off when I went to close it but without that felt it works fine for now guess we will see what happens, and ya the latch seems fine it opens and closes

The latch is not adjustable but maybe its striker might be or perhaps the dash plastic has flex over the years making it difficult to latch. I have to slam mine a little bit but it will be holding four modules for sat radio, bluetooth, nav and traffic so it will stay closed from now on accept for firmware updates. I would put felt back on it though so you don't have noise issues.

I was thinking about that as I wrote my comment. I didn't even think about it as I briefly looked at it. Thank you!
