Hell, I don't know. I don't have it on my 2001, but my 2011 and 2012 have it, well it's more of an updated, slimmed down connector on the negative cable

The contraption is likely one of 2 things that will measure current and battery voltage. A CT(current transformer which must go around the negative wire) and/or a precision 1 ohm resistor which can be used to measure current.
