My From Start to Finish 6.0L Build

Just finished your entire thread, start to finish Bob. First, sorry for your losses with your furries (sounds weird saying that considering there are kids that act like animals nowadays) but all of us that have lost a pet know the sting and the mark it leaves on our hearts after losing one, so i am truly sorry.
Your attention to detail and thoroughness is absolutely commendable, thats got to be the military in you. Something that i hear often, but most people never practice, and that my pops told me from a young age, if you are going to do something, do it right… no matter what it is.. whether cleaning up dog crap in the yard, doing homework, building an engine, finishing a basement or building a house and you sir, definitely do things right.
Good luck (but im sure you dont need it) on the motor swap that im sure will go smoothly and cant wait to hear that its running and you are happy with all your choices. (i feel like as im typing this you are already flashing the tune and you’ll be at you first oci by the time i hit post reply… lol)
In a year or two i hope to embark on somewhat of a similar journey… the whole work and pesky life thing seems to always be in my way.. we shall see what the future holds for me, but for now, vicariously living through yours and many, many others threads on this forum will have to do.

Thank you for the kind words. I still miss my little Spunky. He was my companion and my buddy. They are such a part of the family and your heart. Life has definitely slowed this build down. As far as my removal and install - going slowly but steady progress.

Got started a little later than I wanted - long week at work, slept in for a change. Did not get as far as I wanted, but my better half wanted to go out to eat. But I did accomplish this:
  • Received program update from Black Bear Performance.
  • Raised Hood to the vertical position.
  • Jacked up vehicle and removed wheels.
  • Removed wheel well covers.
  • Disconnected negative battery terminal.
  • Removed all eight spark plugs (removed dipstick assembly prior to removing #8 plug)
  • Removed air intake system.
  • Removed plastic top cover with the AEM sticker.
  • Removed splash/rock guard (5 Bolts).
  • Removed electric fan.
  • Drained Oil.
  • Drained Radiator.
  • Removed Top/Lower Radiator Hoses
  • Remove plastic Vortex engine cover.
  • Removed Serpentine Belt.
  • Removed AC belt.
  • Removed cruise control and throttle linkages.
  • Disconnected various wire harnesses, including (3) from throttle body.
  • Removed alternator
  • Removed throttle body (4 bolts).
  • Removed three 8mm and three 10mm bolts from wire harness support.
  • Disconnected various harnesses.
  • Disconnected passenger’s side coil pack main wire harness.
  • Removed passenger’s side coil pack as a unit (5 bolts).
  • Disconnected driver’s side coil pack main wire harness.
  • Removed driver’s side coil pack as a unit (5 bolts).
  • Moved main wire harness off to the driver’s side (spot tie out of the way).

You likely already have an "organization" method. I recently did an engine replacement for my neighbor across the street, on his 2006 F150 5.4 4x4. Did the transmission at same time. Every thing removed was marked and stacked in order and all fasteners were put in small zip lock bags and marked and laid out in order. Reassembly went real well with it all organized like that.

Yep, I have a word document I created and I follow. I too use zip lock bags and mark accordingly. I place the parts in the back of my Tahoe. During the install I just follow the removal in reverse order. I even have torque values listed out for the install. I'm a bit **** that way - plus at my age I need the assist.
