I have 2005 Yukon SLT, bought new.
My question to the wonderful folks here on the forum.
I like my ride, carbon grey metallic. Chrome Denali wheels.
New tires. AC rebuilt last year.
Rear seal replace last year. New headliner.
235,000 miles. Mostly highway miles.
The roof and hood are losing their paint and starting to rust on the surface.
I am thinking of having my body shop paint just the hood and roof for about $1100.
Engine tranny all run fine, no problems.
Just starting to use a little oil. Maybe a half quart between changes.(5-6.000 miles)
Needs seat covers.
Should I sell this ride or paint and go on for a while.
That’s my question.
What would you do?

I have been asked this type of question before and I give the same answer every time. If the rig is paid for, meets your needs when you need it to, is dependable and you like it enough to keep it and have the money to do what you want to it, then IMO, keep the rig. If you are tired of the rig and just want something new to you then get what you want but unless you buy brand new, you will be buying an uncertainty and the used rig will need some work and at this point you don't know how expensive that need could be. If you buy used and have the mechanical knowledge, make sure you check it front to back or have a qualified tech do that. Plus, if you do not get the maintenance and repair work history with the rig, then you are starting from scratch.

Change the oil every 5000 and add 1 container of Sea Foam liquid the oil every time. The Sea Foam liquid will not only clean the engine but rejuvenate the O rings etc around the valve rods and other areas. If the oil condition is really bad or the system gummed up, put the stuff in and do an oil change at 2500 then continue with the normal cycle. I began to use this on mine several years ago and it made a day and night difference. Putting a can of the Sea Foam into the fuel once in a while will also help clean the fuel system. It will not hurt the engine in any way. You should notice a difference in 3-4 weeks.

Yes I know it is all subjective with this many miles.
I was kind of wondering how long these can go before the engine is smoking and pretty much unusable without major engine work.
I think at that point I would throw in the towel and look for a new ride.
The newer ones are nice, with more convenience features, for sure.
Thanks

Our 2002 Yukon has 201k miles. I think I've spent almost $5k on it the past 2 years redoing the front diff, rebuilt tranny with upgrades, oil pan and oring, front crankshaft seal...yep, spent about as much as it's worth.
I plan on keeping it still since it still drives and rides fine, and I've shopped around for a new three-row full-size SUV 4x4 and we're talking 60 to 70 grand for equivalent features. Granted I can get something cheaper used, but I hate inheriting other people's problems especially if they are unknown. I bought this vehicle new, best investment ever.

Also, something I did not mention before. If you get a newer rig and have the cash for it, great, but if you don't then there are the payments to be made and I can just about bet the insurance will be more. I like my NBS Tahoe and I did look at newer rigs but I am not a fan of all the problems I see here about VVT and I can say that the seats were not as comfortable.

Funny you mentioned that.
I actually thought of a carbon fiber wrap for the hood and paint the roof.
I thought that would be cool,

Keep it unless u got plenty of cash.

I always look at that keep/sell thing each year. And then I keep mine.

Depreciation on newer is at least $1000/yr and if I can maintain mine for $1500 or less i am prob ahead. Gosh, prob $2500 would keep me ahead.

I've just ordered 600-700 in front end parts. And my free labor.

Makes me wonder again...

But wifey likes the yukon. So I keep fixing it. No pmt.
