Hey Folks,

About a month ago, I bought my dad's '07 Denali. Finally got it cleaned up and detailed. Really enjoying the truck so far. It is nice to find this forum and I have been wearing out the search engine. Great info so far, but I do have a few questions:

  1. Does my vehicle have a cabin air filter? I'm reading conflicting stuff and online parts stores do list a cabin air filter for sale (distinct from the engine air filter). I looked behind the passenger glove box and nothing is obvious back there (like my wife's minivan) if there is one.
  2. Are the exterior chrome handles covered by a dealer since a TSB was issued for them? FWIW, my truck has 66K miles and no extended warranty. I have found the amazing instruction sheets that DwDrummer has posted, but this fix may be above my capabilities.
  3. What brand / type of sealer should I use to reseal my headlight? I read a bunch on this forum about folks blacking out the chrome part using the oven method or cutting the old sealer putty, but what new substance should i use between the clear cover and the headlight housing? I live in Florida (very humid) and the driver's side headlight is sweating on the inside, so there must be a crack in the seal. The passenger side is dry as a bone. This might be a project I could handle.
  4. Anybody have side moldings that are gaping? My driver's side rear door has the short side molding protective piece that looks like the adhesive backing is no longer sticking in the middle and a gap has developed. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any assistant you all can offer. It's nice to be back in the truck world again.

Peace,

DM

I can help you with #1, no cabin filter in these. I had the same question when i got mine. Also, #2 Probably depends on the dealer, i just replaced one of mine myself. I did not ask the dealer to help, maybe i should have? i have 85k on my Denali so i figured they would say no. Anyway the part was $70 OTD from the dealer, i found them for like $40 online (aftermarket). Next time i will order it, but this time i did not want to drive around with no door handle for a week waiting on shipping. took about an hour to replace with a buddy of mine helping. Apparently the chrome ones are the problem, regular black or painted are better.

the chrome ones use a different plastic compound to get the chrome finish, it is more brittle. I called 3 local Chevy dealers and 1 GMC dealer and all of them had the chrome handle in stock, they must replace a bunch of them.

Matthew,

The chrome handles are known to brake on GMT900 vehicles. My 08 tahoe had 2 chrome handles break, and the dealership had it on hand to change out (they said it happens all the time). Google Nordstrom's Auto and call them for some new side mouldings. They have the Tahoe LTZ/Yukon Denali 2009+ side mouldings w/ chrome trim that are the new/updated version of yours for 145 for all 4 shipped and painted your color. If I were you, i'd replace your old ones with those! Hope that helps. oh btw... welcome!

3. I'm not sure of what type of sealer you need but I would definitely buy some OEM replicas to do that to. I hear that the stock headlight are a PITA to get apart. The OEM replicas aren't that much as I bought some for my upcoming retrofit.

Thanks everyone for the responses. A couple of follow up questions:

mrrairai - Where did your purchase your OEM headlights online?

AUDenali - Am I correct in assuming the chrome handles from the local dealership that you bought are redesigned in terms of the brittle material they were originally manufactured with? GM has fixed the handles available now?
I so appreciate the input from you all. Now if I can only clear the message that is telling me to have my oil changed and not letting me see my odometer.

Now if I can only clear the message that is telling me to have my oil changed and not letting me see my odometer.

Look to the right of your steering wheel. You should see a row of four buttons. These are your DIC (driver information center) buttons. Press the top one (I think it shows a picture of a road) until your odeometer comes back up. Note that the change oil message will keep popping up upon start up until you reset your change oil warning (see HERE)

Thanks ChevyFreak. I knew how to temporarily switch it to the odometer, but that link you gave is exactly what I needed.

as far as trying to get the dealer to fix something out of warranty just because a TSB was issued...aint gonna happen at those miles. perhaps if u were only a few thousand over they "might" but have no obligation to.
