for vortecs it is just a throttle body (tb). tbi referes to '95 and older fuel injection systems. a ported tb allows more airflow and smoothness of it. they typically have also the deflector plate removed form the throttle plate. it is there to help with egr gas mixture but also creates a slow down effect on the incoming air. reducing the power a bit and helps smooth out you initial acceleration. after it is removed you have a more instant throttle response.. you want to get one that is bottom bore matched to plenum opening. not bored really wide and then knocked back down by use of a spacer or adapter of some kind.

Nick, did those long tube headers have any clearance/fit issues??? Do they have the EGR valve bung?

They are the pacesetter ceramic coated. I cant remember the part number. I do my research off of jegs or summit then get my parts from amazon. If I remember correctly they were 300$. They fit great. The only problem we had was that the passenger side would barely tap against the firewall where the header bends under the firewall. Its just a heat sheild that is bolted to the body, i got a hammer and beat it in alittle bit. That was the only issue i had with fitment. They do not have a bung for EGR. When i did the exhaust setup i have, i called up blackbear and asked for a tune and to delete the EGR. SO i just plugged the EGR hole on the motor and i dont need it anymore.

Someone had a request on blackbear tune info... I love my tune! I didnt get an in person tune. I just called Justin and told him what i wanted. I took out i believe 80-85% torque management, deleted EGR, and changed shift points and shift stiffness. I absolutely love my tune! I noticed immedietely a difference after i put the new PCM in! My truck runs smoother. I didnt really notice that big of a difference in horsepower or torque, but the drivability is night and day. Merging onto a busy highway is easy as pushing the pedal down and going. I always had a lag with the old PCM. Kinda scary trying to merge into traffic and having to wait a second for the truck to understand what your doing. Get a tune! You will love it!

^^^ And this is on your '97 two door? That's interesting and good to hear. Those long tubes had to help tremendously too.

Did you notice any change in mileage?

start with a cat back then. the CAI is going to present issues if you put a 5.3 engine in later. the 5.7 one wont fit a 5.3 and the 5.3 CAI wont fit into an obs.

Well, I'm still waiting for a shipper to get the car here, but the first of my parts have come in (Volant air cleaner). I've also been reading alot about the 0411 pcm swap; I'm almost certain to do that but probably not till this summer. I want this in part to drive the efans--probably going to go w/Mark VIII if I can find one at the pick & pull, otherwise the '05 tahoe efans. I am still on the edge about the 1.52 RR upgrade, but downstream I am only looking at a cat-back.

Given this, is there any real reason to go with a ported throttle body, or should I just go with the throttle plate change:

Thoughts?
