Mechanical engineer would be the last person I would talk to about a motor swap.

I agree completely, blower and gears and be done with it!

Actually it should be the first, if he knows anything about drive train design....

That engine is a complete engine with forged internals and LS7 heads, so your 5.3 intake manifold will not work. Actually not a terrible deal for the longblock when all said and done, however its not what you need in this case. Get a blower and new gears and you will be good to go for much less money.

Im going to get the LS7 air intake manifold or the air raid manifold. Im trying to get my truck the same as my dads, he has a 93' Suburban 2500 454 with banks headers and exhaust.

I have a lot and am an ME to boot.

I am actually in support of the idea about gears and blower and be done (much cheaper and just as effective). What I was not in support of was your idea that an ME is the last person he should talk to....

Either the ME he talked to has no idea about drive train design whether professional or turning wrenches or is a complete moron. But that doesnt mean all ME's are dumb when it comes to this topic.

By brother in law is a mechanical engineer and cant even change his own oil!! I know that means nothing in regards to the average ME but just an example that just because somebody is educated in math/physics doesn't guarantee they know the ins and outs of pulling a 5.3.

I was simply concerned with the advice the OP was getting when he said he didn't need gears because "everything should just drop right in"

Agreed, I know plenty of engineers, different areas who cant change their oil either.

Even if everything did drop right in, to me its a waste of money, if its burning a hole in his pocket, then go for it.
