i just picked up an 18 XL denali. lemoned my 2015.5 xl denali a while ago. i have a decent 25 mile commute mostly on the highway and averaged 19.5 mpg on the 2015 MY. i have gotten over 24 on super long highway trips. i had 4wd.

IMHO, the 2018 trans is way better. i had both the random clunk issues and torque converter problems on the 15MY, but so far this trans is way better... might be too soon to tell.

Was turned off by the numerous issues i had with the 15, but hoping it was just a dud. the 6.2L motor is just so fun to drive and it gets better mileage than my old tacoma!

Do you feel the ride is quieter and/or better on the 18 vs 15?

Hard to remember, but I have the 22s on this one as opposed to the 20s on my last denali. Ride is good so far, sometimes i feel like i might have a buffetting issue, but then it seems to go away (didn't have it in the 15). I think the ride quality difference is negligible... except the trans is better. Seems maybe a little quieter.

I had a 97 burb 2500 and averaged 12 with the 6.0 I think. My 13 and 16 Silverado 1500 had the 5.3 and I got around 17-18 with bigger a/t tires and camper tops on both. Now We have a 14 Denali xl with 24” wheels and average 16-17 around. I drive like a grandpa ... well I am one too... lol. The Denali was such a better drive than the burbs we test out. And way more room in the xl compared to Tahoe’s and regular denalis.

Does the Denali require premium? I thought both motors ran regular....
Denali all the way.
Anyway if you planing to purchase a V 8 and you thinking about gas you are making a mistake my friend.
That is the last thing you should tink, on my opinion gas is irrelevant in this cars doing the massive engine under the hood.
If gas is a issue for you get a hybrid SUV .

Im accustomed to getting 12mpg with my trucks. So to me, getting 20mpg in a full size extended suv with a big v8 is absolutley mind blowing. I couldnt be happier. I would never put my wife in a teeny suv just to get another 5+ miles per gallon. That just seems silly. MAYBE if we didnt need all the extra room, but even then I would have a hard time doing it.

The Denali gets up to 23mpg Highway. 22 for 4x4. That’s hardly bad. And 2mpg more epa est than our Grand Cherokee. Pretty impressive imo

What transmission does the MY 15 have in the Denali/XL? Does it not have the current 8-speed?

I actually owned an XC90 V8 and drove it as my daily for 8 years. So not my first rodeo.

Just doing my due diligence to make the most informed decision before I spend ≈50k.

Thanks though.
