Info. on the bypass please????:)

I bought a used pac nu-gm29 off ebay. The seller said they pulled it out of their 07 Denali. I tried to hook it up but the radio wouldn't turn on. I know it was getting power as the nav disk was making its usual noise. Talked to Pac's tech support and they believe the module is bad. The data wire goes through it. Just ordered a new one off Amazon today and will try again when it gets here.

I hope this one will do it. I am planning on hooking an Apple TV up to the rear ports. With iOS 8 you no longer need a wireless network to use Airplay. Bought a hdmi to rca convertor to hook it up to the jacks.

Will update again after round 2.

Got the replacement bypass installed today. Works perfectly. Passenger can now input nav destinations while driving, Amongst other prohibited features

It makes you confirm "safe driving" in order to utilize the bypass. Install was easy. The bypass goes in between the factory radio harness and the radio. It has a feature to enable the rear cam while driving as well but I skipped that feature. You would to run a wire to the bcm under the steering column to use that and I would never use it so no point for me.

Info. on the bypass please????:)

Can you elaborate on how this works? I guess I'm not that tech savy but I do have an Apple TV. Can you play movies via the Apple TV onto the rear seat DVD's?

The directions are straight forward. You pull out the radio and there are 2 plugs that go that you remove from the factory stereo. A black one and brown one. The bypass comes with a t-harness that goes in-between the factory radio and factory wires. Plug everything back in and reinstall radio. That's really it. You hold down the source button on the steering wheel and it says confirm safe use on the information cluster and then press source once more to confirm.

Done.

This is a link to the pdf instructions

I'm happy with the outcome.

I tried the Apple TV route and it became too big of a hassle. The mirroring wasn't working as good as I thought and the Apple TV still wants a internet connection to play iTunes movies. Also needs a power inverter to get AC power to the device.

I ended up buying a Lightning to HDMI convertor which plugs into my iPhone or iPad and it mirrors the entire display without any issues. I played around with all this until I realized this works the best and consistently.

Needed this Apple part

This HDMI to rca convertor

The HDMI adaptor only worked properly when I supplied power through a micro usb car charger.

It take a bit of wiring but the end result is I can mirror whatever is on my Apple devices and it shows on both the rear screen and the front screen. Youtube, Netflix, HBOGO, games, apps, whatever is on the device shows up.

When I have a little more time I'm going to see if I can stuff all these parts and wires below the center console and just have the lightning plug come out. I wonder what the back of the rca plug looks like and if I can just remove that plug and put an AC plug ran to a fanless inverter in its place.

Thanks!

I'm down to try some other lakes. I've heard great things about Powell, It looks beautiful in pictures on the web. We go to Havasu mainly as our friends have a house there with a pool and Jacuzzi. Free place to stay with a good place to kick back and have a few drinks at night. The other issue is that I store my boat in Needles as it is outrageous to store in Orange County plus the towing factor. We were meaning to stay in Laughlin and go to Lake Mojave this year but always end up back in Havasu. We are getting over the scene that is has become there though.

This upgrade has been on my list since I got my 07 Yukon a few weeks ago. I will have to look for one. Thanks

Scott,

Thank you for this info, this will be very handy for the kids in the back and it will be much nicer to just run everything off of the iPad. thanks again.

Do you still have to use your internet connection since the mirroring didn't work with the Apple TV?

I'm gonna look into doing it this way in addition to the gmx560 I already have.
