What is the normal oil pressure range for a 6.0 Vortec? At idle and under acceleration

You might want to do a quick test. Turn the ignition to the run position without starting it and watch the gauges energize. If it oil pressure needle sticks at ~40psi with the engine off (i.e. no pressure) you have a bad oil pressure sending unit. Mine was like that when I bought it with 156k. Cheap part to replace, but it is on the back of the block against the firewall. I watched a few youtube videos and did it all by feel while laying across the top of the engine. Now it reads accurately, and actually changes between idle and driving.

Not sure what you mean by "sticks at ~40psi" ? What should the gauge do when key is turned on but engine is off?
