One fairly large consideration for this move is resale. I have a feeling the 6-sp Denalis will be more difficult to resell than an 8-sp.

I agree. Since I'm paying cash I don't want to be behind on a major mechanical feature right from the start. I would be pissed if I were an unsuspecting early adopter!

I highly doubt that the 6 sp will adversely affect resale value. Dealers buy cars like cattle, they heard them through based on what that week's auction price dictates. Anybody looking to buy a used Denali or Escalade will be more worried about condition and mileage.

I just cancelled my 6 speed for the 8 because the wait won't be as long as the ownership, and anything that helps get rid of that old 6 speed lag will be a huge improvement.

Agreed on resale it will have little to no affect for this type of truck. 90% of buyers of these trucks could care less how many gears the transmission has. Your buying a poeple mover SUV not a Porsche TT with PDK. Sure I would love the 8 speed and I think it will be a great trans but it's not a deal breaker for us after 3 months of waiting. My wife's truck will rarely see 5-6th gear. She spends most her time around town with speed limits of 35. And with the right tune it will keep me more then happy when I drive it :)

I would have GLADLY traded the 8 speed for the 6 speed and a summer 14' delivery. Unfortunately, I'm still sitting at 1100, so I'm not giving up much..

x3 on 8 speed not making any difference in resale value.

2 things to remember:

- If you are waiting until the "next best thing that's getting ready to come out"- your gonna wait forever cause there is always going to be something better.

- Consider being the guinea pig for a brand new trans. That's not something you want Billy Bob the grease monkey working at the dealer tearing into that he knows absolutely nothing about.

Just my .02

I would recommend you get in contact with someone at GM higher up. That is ridiculous to wait that long. Someone should be able to get the ball rolling and have yours produced within 2 weeks (if you decided not to wait on the 8 speed now)

I've done everything we could. My dealer has done everything they could. A few dealer trades were offered, but nothing close enough.
No allocation on Denalis for them, and that's that..
An NHL Hockey player is waiting right behind me, and he's also out of luck until allocation eases.
So, I might as well cut bait and get the updated model in hopes that the trans doesn't spit parts.

Ironically, our 6 speed went out in our 10' Tahoe at 50 miles.. They fixed it, and it's run 50K without issue.
Hopefully, we won't have issues with the 8.

I'm looking FWD to the 8spd Denalis, will probably get rid of mine when they come out. The 8spds are already going in the 2015 trucks, so most of the bugs should be shaken out.

Anyone that thinks the 6-speed won't devalue much vs. the 8-speed units are definitely incorrect. Trying to be a "ginea pig" on the transmission? We are all ginea pigs on the entire truck! Remember, this 6.2L direct injection engine, although similar to the old unit, is NOT the same as the previous generation 6.2L. The 8-speed unit shares some components with the current 6-speed and is built in the same Toledo, Ohio plant.

The 6.2L equipped trucks with the 8-speed transmissions are going to drive COMPLETELY different than the old setup. Shifts will be faster, more responsive, the 1st gear ratio is shorter, the final drive taller, two overdrive gears, etc., etc. 0-60 will be shaved and fuel mileage higher.

This is nearly the same transmission in the Corvette Z06 and Stingray, with different programming. Imagine what a Diablo sport tuner, plugged into a 2015.5 Yukon Denali would/could do for shift speeds (for those performance-minded individuals). I also have a feeling that in addition to the 8-speed transmission and 4G/LTE On-Star additions, there will be other minor updates that will arrive with the 4th quarter models.

I sold my 2015 Denali today and will take delivery of an October build 2015.5. The $700 hit was WELL worth it in driving experience and resale.
