I think it is a way to get OnStar more involved since Bluetooth pretty much elimiated their phone option, especially at $40 for a 100 minutes that they want to charge. They gave me one year free (Destinations) when I bought my Yukon XL. I used it on a couple places that I knew and it worked perfectly. It put it in as a via or gave me verbal directions to the point I wanted before going back to the original route.

However, I just took a 1500 mile trip with my 08 Vette and a Garmin and it was easier to use and I have proclip mount in my Vette so it is generally within arms reach with my elbow on the center console arm rest.
