I picked up a np246 transfer case and it looked to be the same. I pulled the shift encoder motor and see that it has a spline gear, supposedly mine has the square lobe selector shaft, will this work in my truck?? 1998 GMC Yukon np8 code. Please help so I know what to do! Thanks

I would call or better yet, go by your local 4wd shop or transmission shop and ask them. I've never had an issue with mine and actually have a spare one on the bench in the shop but I've never bothered to look at it that closely. Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Good news! Had a guy hit me up yesterday, he had the right tc I needed so we did a swap and he even put in new clutches, a chain and bearings! While I was standing there. Of course I did have to drive 130 miles one way since he couldn't meet me because his tc was trashed. All very well worth it I think

So I pulled the tc today and got curious, here's what I found. The chain was so so loose I was able to pull the back half of the case off without unclipping the clip in the tail shaft. Luckily it looks like it was about to explode, the clutch pack bearing is gone, the tail shaft bearing is gone, and the crack in the tc makes me thankful I decided to do it this weekend

How long have you owned the truck ? Have you ever changed the fluid ? Do you Off-Road your truck ? I have a '95 winter beater Tahoe with over 200k on it but only use the four wheel in snow and ice.

I've had it almost two years, never needed the 4wd. I don't go 4 wheeling I'm too old for that, mine has 257,000 on it, and I've never changed the fluid. It's always made a bunch of noise since I bought it. The kid that had it before me did though, so that's why it's screwed up

Looks like the fluid was never changed. That's crazy that there was a big blob of black stuff in there.
