I was driving home the other day and heard a pop/slap noise coming from the driver side front wheel area. I pulled over and nothing was loose, so I drove on. Then it did it again and later down the road it would do it like a machine gun burst, pop pop pop pop pop... Then stop.
It does it randomly and I cannot think of what it is. When I got home I jacked it up and took the tire off but couldn't find anything wrong.
Is it the shocks just getting too old?
Please help me if you can.
Thanks

Here is another link to what you are describing, maybe a intermediate stearing shaft issue

http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1528&highlight=shaft

Thank you for your response. However, it is a different sound that I am getting. It sounds like it is coming from the front driver side wheel. It happens at random. At first I thought it was something in the front axle. But my new guess is the shocks are old. Does that make sense? Would the shocks make slapping or popping noises?
Thank you again for responding!

It has stopped doing it which is strange. I know what the typical GM steering click/looseness feels like, but this was like something was slapping the frame of the truck. It would only do it at highway speeds and randomly. It wasn't due to hitting changes in elevation either which was strange. I know that when it was happening it was after I had climbed the ramp at work to get offsite so that is why I figured that it was the suspension. Since I do not go up and down steep grades anymore I do not know if that is why the problem has stopped.

When does it happen for you?

Mine does it at complete random. Usually between 30 and 70 miles an hr, just driving straight. Sometimes it will be a single pop/slap, then sometimes sounds like a machine gun. It sounds like it's from the left front wheel area but it is so random and does it for short amount of time before it stops, it's almost impossible to tell exactly where it's from. Wheel bearings seem fine. I'm at a loss

It is the same thing that I experienced. Did you ever find out what caused it?
Mine has not acted up since, but if there is an issue I want to get it repaired.
Thank you everyone for the assistance.
