DOT mandated starting in '86 for cars and '94 for light trucks.

Not to be too harsh, but how can anyone not have noticed something that lights up in one's face in traffic and has been on nearly every new vehicle on the road for over three decades?
well people buy gift cards to pay the irs or gift wrap gold bars to give them for "safekeeping" so nothing surprises me anymore.....
others believe the world is flat and bigfoot is real despite there being no hair, no SKAT, no bones so....

Its odd but curious as to why you have such information on hand to post lol
I'm not who you're asking, but one doesn't need to have it on hand. It's pretty easy to think up a search terms such as "chmsl effectiveness" and Google it. That link is the 1st result in Google. If you Googled "chmsl safety data," that link is the 2nd result.

What the hey- I'll play...

If "odd" and "curious" are the adjectives he wants to use, I think he should've tied them together with "and", rather than with "but".

CHMSL = center high-mounted stop lamp. Been required on most U.S. vehicles for a long time. Primary offense to not function.

If you have trouble sleeping, ;) here's a link to a 93-page document that evaluates the effectiveness of the CHMSL:

Welllll....duh!!!

I'm asking myself the same question...
