well, mr fedex dropped off my schoenfeld ls1 truck headers today. http://www.schoenfeldheaders.com/LS1-TRUCK.htm i need to get started with pulling my motor and tranny apart so that i can get the motor on a stand. i wanna pop the valve covers, maybe heads, and oil pan so i can look at everything. anyhow, sorry it's been so long with no updates, just been busy with other things. time for the fun to start!

Pop that ***** off and re-do ALL THE GASKETS! Plan on going boost look into ARP studs. Easier to do it now while it is all out. Your truck is up and running so you got time to do it right!

So, got the motor and tranny split, got the motor on a stand, got the accessories and valve covers off, intake was already off. Took some pics, gonna try to upload them tomorrow. Need to get some more parts on the way and finish tearing the motor down. Head bolts are hella tight, may need to get a breaker bar to get them out. Looking forward to seeing how my cylinders look, hopefully they still have some crosshatching in them.

Actually, no. And not like I expected them to just come right out, I was just still piddling around and didn't put a whole lot of effort into trying to get the heads off. There's a much better assortment of tools at my dad's, some I bought and left there from when I was living there, some that he owns and I had use of while I was there. Anyhow, I haven't amassed a lot of tools of my own yet, I'm sure that it would be much easier with a better
selection at my immediate disposal, but I'll have to take it as it comes, whether purchasing or borrowing. I need to invest in a torque wrench as well. I was more or less just giving an update, that I did indeed get started down this road. Me and the parts house are gonna be getting real friendly. Wish me luck!

And not to sound like a dumbass, but I had a buddy helping me andhe was actually the one who tried the head bolts with a ratchet. I was already to the kicking myself in the ass for not wearing a hat and feeling the burn setting in on my shaved head stage, so I actually didn't try myself. But I do believe a breaker bar is in my near future if i don't get some pneumatic tools.

Defently going to need a torque wrench exspecially when bolting everything back together. Overtightening can cause two things...leaks or snapped shit which really **** up your build and budget. Honestly, when doing any type of motor work I leave the air tools in thier respective places. Can't feel how tight shit is getting with an air tool. Atleast with a ratchet you can feel it getting tighter and then switch to a torque wrench. I understand with a breaker bar...nothing a steady hand with a hammer can do. Craftsman got some decently priced ratchets!

If you please with a torque wrench get one the goes in reverse if you ever plan on touching your differentials!

GL keep us posted and PLEASE PLEASE take your time.

Lets not insult guys...help

let's see if i can figure out this posting pics thing. that monster ass table is what i built the day before to be able to put the motor and tranny down on top of at a working height to separate the motor and tranny without laying down on the ground.

unknown at this time.
Great start . I would like to suggest you'll want bigger wheels for your work table. Pneumatics would work very well. Waiting for day #2
