alright, got industrious today and replaced the rear seal and the gasket. pretty straight forward, no need to take any pics or anything. i put the new seal into the housing and drove it into place with a flat board (to seat it squarely) and a deadblow hammer. then for the plate the seal is held by, i cleaned the mating surfaces really well with brake parts cleaner and took off any trouble areas with some fine emery cloth. skim coated both mating surfaces with some rtv, as i think retorq suggested, used some blue threadlocker on the threads of the bolts, and torqued the bolts to 18lb/ft in a criss-cross pattern. pretty easy stuff, first time for me to do though. i don't mind doing any of this stuff, i just don't like REDOING it again. i probably make it a bigger deal than i should, overanalyzing and such, but i just wanna get it right the first time. anyway, i'll probably take some pics of when i put my oil pan gasket in, may be some more interesting pics then. i'm rambling, so i'm gonna shut up.

anyhow, i'm short on time right now, but there are a couple rivets that you have to drill out on the factory oil pan gasket. i'll edit this a little later to put some descriptions if needed.

Out of curiosity, if you have a 4x4 Tahoe/Yukon and you decide to do the LQ4/4L80 swap, would you also need to get a different transfer case or could you use the same one that you already have?

man, i'm not even sure. i would imagine that if you didn't get another transfer case, the output/input shaft may have to be changed to spline to the new transmission. i'll look around and see what i can find out for ya. i know there's a guy on FSC that did the swap in a 4x4, i'll look and see what's up and link to his thread there for ya.

i'm still looking to see if there's anything else i can find for ya buddy.

should be getting cranked up more soon. between shift work and not HAVING to finish the project like NOW, i haven't exactly set a record pace on this. well, that and not always knowing WTF i'm doing. but should be getting a move on more, pull the heads and get them ported out, and start putting things together.

just ordered my motor mount plates.

How come no one mentioned the fact that since it's a 2000 the heads would make good anchors
