Headlight restore

One of my headlights was replaced before I purchased and the other was oxidized really bad. I thought about buying a new one for $75 but thought I would give restoring it a shot first.

I had some Chemical Guys V Line products and found this video so pretty much followed his steps.

I used 1000, 2400, and 3600 grit sand paper with the v32 and v36 compounds. It's not perfect but it's definitely better, only took 45 minutes and didn't cost much money. I'll have to see how long it lasts.

I've restored a lot of headlights through the years, but one the UV coating on them, it only lasts about 6 months before they haze again. I miss the old glass lenses

It definitely doesn't look as nice as the new one. We'll have to see if it still bothers me as much because it was bad before. What UV coating do you use?

There isn't one that I'm aware of. I've tried wax, Rain-X, etc. They help a little, but nothing permanent. I've never done it, but I've been tempted to clear coat them

Had mine cleaned up on my Honda when I had the front bumper painted. Guy clear coated the headlights when done. It's been a year and they still look goodd1861d7d2879f40a7b502fe745bf2145.jpg

Ah. I saw krylon makes a clear uv spray but I'm not sure how much it would help. I also heard this stuff called Jetseal is good but at $40 a bottle you're 1/2 way to a new light.

Jetseal is an absolutely bitchin product!I use it all the time! Couple coats of it on each headlight when I restore and they are good to go. Several sets I did a couple years back are still clear. I just re do the jetseal coat once a year. It's well worth the 40 dollar price tag!

Still waiting for a distribution block to finish wiring the rear lights so tonight I used anthracite grey plasti dip to dechrome the front grill. Pretty happy with how it turned out and I plan on using it on my wheels, roof rack, door handles and some new tow mirrors.

Got these Boost Auto tow mirrors with the dual function running/signal lights mounted tonight. Still need to wire up the clearance lights to a reverse feed and a toggle switch. Pretty easy install. Hardest part is finding wires to splice into. The passenger side connection for the glass signal arrow is a little loose and will only blink if held in a certain position so I hope they send a replacement glass but will be easy to swap.

Here's video showing how to wire in their dual function harness.

Caught the install on my nest cam but not the greatest.
