I’m not too familiar with cams really but i would think if i have to replace the rear main and want to delete the AFM it would be a good time to put a cam in. Ive been wanting an aggressive idle/sound, i’m not to concerned about power as it is my daily and i’m in college with a budget. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a good handle on the rabbit hole concept. @Geotrash did an epic thread on the subject, I would listen carefully to anything he might offer on the subject.

Theres a lot of good cams and I do believe a cam can increase your mpg if it's specced correctly, Roger Vinci has amazing customer service and has a bunch of different cams that may be able to get you the sound you want and improve MPG. I highly suggest shooting him an email and being very honest about your goals.

What year and engine is your rig?

It’s a big job, but I’m glad I did it. I ended up putting in a Brian Tooley racing stage 2 truck cam, and it has a great lope at idle and great power throughout the rev range. I also deleted VVT and was able to use a three bolt cam that way, and the reassembly was easier. It also meant I could delete the troublesome VVT timing chain tensioner and replace it with a standard LS guide.

Here’s my Build thread. I started with a Vinci cam, and for a number of reasons it didn’t work out. So I had to go back in with the Brian Tooley cam. Both parts lists are in the thread, one for each time I did the job.: 2012 Yukon XL Denali 6.2L Cam Swap Thread

I’m about to dip my toes I to the cam swap waters. Cam, long tube headers and finally a supercharger are on my short list this year to finally do after being side tracked with some custom audio builds.

Going with Texas Speed and Performance for a package. I’ll start a new thread to list what they suggested after looking at my rpo codes
