Rear main seal leaking. Help

I recently purchased a 97 2 door 4 wheel drive tahoe. I believe I have a rear main seal leaking. Tried to stop leak stuff from the parts house seemed to slow I down but not stop it. How hard is this to change out ? Can it be done with basic tools ? I'm not a mechanic by any stretch but I try to fix things if I can without paying a shop to do it.

You'll definitely want a manual if you haven't really worked on that stuff before.

With four wheel drive you will have to remove both front and rear drive shafts (30min tops if you work) Then unplug and un bolt transfer case (pretty heavy, upwards of 60lbs. Id say)

Now you'll need a transmission jack. Unplug and unbolt transmissoneermachine and support with jack of course. back it up.

I think you'll have to remove exhaust piping from just in front of the cats.

Then you back the transmission up and access seal behind rear main seal cover.

Its definitely a chore for the beginner but SOO worth it! lol

Thanks for the info. I definetly will get a manual and I'll probably have some help. Just don't wanna fork out hundreds of dollars or more if I don't have too.
