no they actually serve a function. thers a rubber covered vent inside that allows pressure to escape. stand by one when someone shuts a door...or stand anywhere near one with huge bass going on inside and u can hear it farting...

then that would def sway me towards the opened up esky oem ones versus the closed ones.

yea if you have a system it makes the back sound horrible b/c of the vents lol.

Yep.. even stand there when you close the door... You can hear air escape.

Like a check valve almost.

...and there's no way around this?

im sure you could seal it up with dynamat or something. But i believe its there for a reason. Mainly to help with pressure when shutting the back hatch. Atleast that's what i was told a long while back when i cared about that being so annoying.

It should be noted that the vents themselves (the part everyone is replacing) does not have a function... its a cover. The rubber seal and all that is under the vent.

yes very good clean up of that so no one gets scared of swapping out the the vent cover.
