Rebuilding 6.2 Any good mods while I do it?

Very true. I'm contemplating on building this myself or having the machine shop assemble it. This would be my first, that is why I'm not quite sure. I have a good friend to rely on if I do go that route.
What cr would be ideal?
Also, would you get a complete rotating assembly or piece together a set?

Sounds like you have a plan already in the making, haha. What gen Camaro do you have?
The ideal compression is gunna vary for what you want out of it.

Pure na and never look back: low to mid 11:1 (or push it close to 12:1 if you have a good tuner, fuel, and like to live dangerously lol)
Decent Na with boost for the future: 10-ish:1 (would make a nice reactive low boost engine or has wiggle room to lower cr)
High boost sob: low-mid 9:1
Anemic engine with biblical levels of boost: anything below 8:1

All those numbers are open to interpretation as static compression ratio doesn't tell the whole picture. Your cam profile can severely impact your dynamic compression ratio (all the figures above are static compression ratio) which is the more important cr to look at. Also, alternative fuels like ethanol, methanol will allow you to run higher compression ratios

Buying a rotating assemblies nice because it can come already balanced, however some builds that are unique will require a piston that's not available in a kit. Texas speeds a good site to look at your options.

There's a popular book called "how to build high performance Chevy ls1/6 v8's" it's a little outdated but it's like the bible of building ls engines.

Mines a third gen Camaro. I've had it since I was 16 so it's part restoration, part moding. It's a project to say the least lol

Not at all. Any info is good info. And I have had the book for a few years. Bought it when I built a ls1 for a 4th gen camaro. Very informative in areas that didn't matter with the original sbc engines. I have to say, I don't know anything about cams. I just go with whatever comp or crane recomends. And with vvt and DoD it complicates things even worse. I'm going to leave my tuning to blackbear since everyone loves them and I already have the autocal. I just want a stroker 418 that has more power and less piston slap than the 6.2 ever dreamed of having. No boost in my future. And I don't want to spend 10k doing it. My gm 6.2 has lasted 150k miles. I want at least 200 out of my built engine. Durability beats output any day in my book. And comparing the stock pistons to almost any aftermarket piston, gm must have really needed to save money because their pistons a skimpy as hell.

They make the cams for vvt and they also make vvt and dod deletes if that's the route you choose.

I too am not that knowledgable about cam profiles and how they react. Best thing to do is call any of the cam companies that favor the ls engines, talk to them about your build, ci, powerband you're after, the kind of numbers you want, and they will spec the cam to your liking.

I have an idea. 418stroker, stock intake, airaid mit, short headers, stock injectors (flexfuel) blackbear tune, if it's not enough, changing gears isn't a big problem. That all I really want. Stock reliability with about 20% more power. And mild sleeper stats.

Add a set of long tube headers to my build. Got some used long tube from an esky for 150$. 1 7/8 and 3 inch collectors. Just need a y pipe for it
