I have owned my 2001 Denali for 7 years but recently bought a 2002 that only says yukon XL but has almost everything identical to my 2001 as far as body, engine, interior etc...we bought it knowing it would need work but my husband and I are perplexed as to which replacement shocks we actually need. Any many parts sights the shocks say they will fit the front but almost all say conversion kit. I know the current ones on both vehicles have a plug running to them in the front. My husband usually does all or most of our car repairs. Can anyone help me with some information on which shocks/struts for front of my vehicles I need to buy and why does everything say conversion? Thanks in advance if you can help me.

Open the glove box in the 02, there will be a sticker with a bunch of 3 digit codes (letters and numbers). Take a picture of that sticker and post it here and we can tell you what suspension package you have, which will determine what shocks you need. If it is a Denali it will have Z55.

Some people would prefer to un-Denalize their suspension;
those would be interested in a conversion to a simpler springs/shocks/swaybars sans electromechanical technofrippery.
Thank you I was thinking that but now we need to look up how to do that conversion

Just to let you know some are happy with the conversion and some are not and end up going back to the original shocks. I would look at Rockauto for the parts and use the 5% discount code listed on the home page at the top of the page” preferred vendor sales”.

when you look on www.Rockauto.com you will see many shock absorbers available but the ones I believe you need are the shocks for vehicles with Z55 which yours is from that RPO label on your glovebox door...

good luck with your Denali

You do have RPO code Z55. Here are OEM replacement shocks for your 2002 Yukon XL w Z55 suspension:

Front: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3970959&cc=1504407&pt=7556&jsn=1860

Rear: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3962376&cc=1504407&pt=7556&jsn=1858&optionchoice=0-0-1-1

There are several aftermarket options that will support the Denali suspension that may save you some money as well. Just ensure they are Z55 compatible unless you want to do a conversion, which will require additional parts to not permanently set off warning messages on your DIC.
