I pulled the shark fin to CM it and was looking at the gaskets to see where they might leak at. (Mine doesn’t) I noticed there’s an inner gasket around where the bolt is, and an outer gasket. It looks to me like the inner one is the seal to the inside and the outer one is the seal to the circuit board. The outer has a gap built into the rear that must allow condensation to escape and it looks like the big outer gasket seals between the base and the cover, and acts as a cushion against the body but not a seal but it does seal the upper from the lower if that makes sense. The bolt pulls down in the area around the smaller inner seal only. Anyway..I sanded the cover smooth and had just enough color to paint it once. It came out perfect. Then I guess I didn’t shake the clear long enough because it came out white and ruined the whole thing, so I stripped it and painted it satin black to match the rest of the black shit I painted. Dammit.!

At least it’s smooth now and not all dull. However. I was leaning on the center console and noticed the cover was loose so I looked and 2 of the 4 screws that attach it to the hinge had fallen out so I removed it, and saw the posts where the screws go into the lid were broken off and one was stripped so it was holding by one screw. I managed to fix it by adding metal clips for the screws to go into. I was in process of reinstalling it and it fell. And broke the fu**ing latch. Anybody who has one of these consoles knows that latch is a joke. They always break. This was already replaced for $40. I bought an entire damn lid just now for $44. I also have epoxy in the broken latch waiting to cure but don’t have much hope. Happy motherfu**ing Father’s Day everyone. :signs8:

I went to the exhaust shop today and wasn’t impressed in fact I left kinda bummed. The owner wasn’t very helpful at all and questioned why I don’t want cats, said my Kooks aren’t really long tubes but more like mid length (?) and refused to work on anything before the end of the y-pipe because he said he could get fined which I understand. He showed me a set of SBC old-school headers and said THOSE are long tubes. He tried talking me out of doing anything other than shortys. And after looking at things he said he didn’t think I was going to get the Kooks to fit. The custom trans mount is in the way I think but it can be modified to possibly have enough room. He did point out to me the y-pipe is stainless and he could weld it with his MIG (but I can’t weld it due to no MIG nor skill) but like I said since there’s no cats he won’t touch it. Like I said I left pretty bummed. But the only way I’m gonna find out is to try. I know with the frame being only 4” tall and other stuff in the way there isn’t much room but I think I’ll pull the old exhaust off and try. Worst thing that can happen is it’s a waste of my time and I have to put it back.

That sux. Time to look for another shop--or guy who can, and would be willing to do it for you.

Problem is all the exhaust shops around here are hacks, this guy does excellent work. All 5-star reviews and pictures of his work are beautiful. It’s weird because I see lots of custom work in his online pictures. Just didn’t seem knowledgeable about headers which is weird like I said. Maybe all his custom work is on older rigs with “real” long tubes lol. There is one shop i know of that does fabrication of bagged vehicles, I might go visit them before I start. There’s a serious lack of custom shops in Portland. It’s just like when I built my Street Glide with a raked 26” front wheel, air suspension and full custom bags and tank. Nobody around here had even seen one, couldn’t even get the tire mounted. Finally a tire shop said they could do it but weren’t responsible if they scratched my $4000 wheel, which they did. For a city this big, it’s perplexing to me.

Well it’s not looking good for long tubes on this truck. I still have some more test fitting but I don’t see any way for these to work with the way the frame, trans mount and crossmembers are. I’m thinking the best thing for me to do is get some shorties and then swap out the muffler for something better, maybe a Borla. I might be able to have the cats replaced with some high- flow ones so a shop will still work on it and build something different but I just have no room. Sucks. Anybody know of a decent set of shorties? Kooks sells a set but they want a grand. For shorties!
