I have a '99 OBS and had a box made for under my 2nd row...I put shallow mounts in the sealed box and it produces an amazing sound...i was surprised by how loud & clear they ran.

However, if you're looking for BIG bass, shallow mounts can never measure up. If you're interested, i can search around for the company that made it and send you the link.

thanks for all your inputs quys..im on deployment right now and internet is a little "iffy" where im at cant wait to go home...im undecided right now on what to put back there. type r's how does those 12s sound? clean? is the box ported or sealed? idk i cant view pix right now on this computer. i might go with JL for this setup but we shall see if the budget allows

I just installed an R/T-300 enclosure (ported) that is designed for the 12 inch R-series Alpine subwoofers; of which I have (seen below). The enclosure is very well made and is tuned to 40 Hz.

The great thing about this sub box is, I can unplug it and remove it when I need the rear space. It hits the lows real well and fills my truck with great bass, but it will not rock the cars around you at the stop light. The larger 2 speaker bass boxes (they also make those), if made/powered well, will rock everything within 30 feet or so, but will be VERY heavy and difficult to move. If you can afford it, get a class-D amp (Digital), b/c it is very energy efficient, and won't kill your battery as fast as standard (class a/b) amplifiers. I have an Alpine PDX-4 powering my main speakers and the PDX-M6 (Mono Power Density Digital Amplifier) powering the subwoofer. Amazing!

Oh, and Thank You for your service in protecting our Freedom!
Nobody shoud take that for granted!

The JL 12s vs the L7s is kinda interesting.. i think the 3 JL 12w3 are going to be tighter... more accurate and will be a more broad spectrum of music coming from them.. it wont hit the ultra low low , jeezy, some joc type music as well as the alternative but it will still get low and hammer and will really shine when you end up popping in some rock or pop in there and it will play the higher sharper bass notes better..

That being said.. the l7s in a ported box will climb lower and give you more "shake" and will stay down in the bucket longer than the 12s will.. at a sacrifice of a little volume and a little sharpness..

IF you never listen to rock or pop at all its a no brainer.. do the ported box (L7s)... but if you do.. then you might want to trade a little of that bottom end for a little more face area and response.

Right now, I'm running 2 10w3s. THinking about going to 3 10s. Probably will. I don't like the super low Jeezy-ish. I need it crisp and i hate the sound of the ghost boom. Which is why I prefer 10s.
You could always go with two 15s...

oh no nothing crazy on the airspace requirements I just figured what the hell... The bass really deepened out with the addition of the polyfill it sounds amazing, but now I'm eying the box made for 12's and upgrading to obsidians and a 2800 watt american bass
