I ordered the vette servo kit w/ longer pin from Oregon Performance today.

I've been reading and I'm on the fence.

1. my Tahoe has 114K on tranny, if original, not sure on that since i got it with 105K
2. I tow a boat several times in the summer, sometimes on long trips, 5+ hrs. and every few years, down to GA, 11 hours.
3. Mine already has some slight slippage from 1 to 2, very minor.

Seems that I shouldn't use the new longer pin, why?

I installed mine with 155k on the stock tranny with 1-2 slip. Been perfect. I'm not sure about the towing thing but I don't forsee any reason to not do it.

I installed one in my 2001 tahoe with 105K on the tranny. 2 months later going to work one morning i lost all of the transmission fluid out of my trans. I had it towed to the dealership and once on the rack we found out that the case cracked at the location of the servo. The technician said either the snap ring was not put back in correctly on the servo cover or the case had a weak spot at that location and the increased fluid pressure caused it to crack and bust. Either way i lost a few thousand dollars over a $20 part.

I've heard that before...always been an install problem.

Put it in. Just make sure you seat the o-ring correctly. Take your time and if you think you messed up the ring get a new one.

had mine done last summer. I Had mine done at a local tranny shop. Every time i change the oil, i always peak at that area to make sure its not leaking. So far so good. They also told me that the longer pin wasnt really needed.

I bought one when i had my two door tahoe and never installed it, so i have a brand new one sitting at home that i want to put in as well. Im at 107k and i read all these horror stories of cracked cases and everything else but the more you read on it proves it was caused by the istall not actual part. This part is used on a vette, i know that it will work wonders in our cars too so I just need to quite being lazy and take it to a shop to put in. I was going to do myself cause its pretty easy but seeing what could happen with improper install id rather pay @$40 for a trans shop to do it right.

cracked cases I bet are from user error when installing. Have a tranny shop do it for a few bucks. Had mine installed a couple years ago, no issues. As far as speeding up the shifting, that helps prolong life, more than decrease if installed correctly.
