Sporadical ticking noise from right cylinder head

With warm (operating temperature) engine, I sometimes hear a pretty loud, but light ticking noise from the right side cylinder head. Sounds almost like a lifter tick, but the lifters aren't up there in the head on these engines. What could it be?

out of adjustment can still lead to a tick in the push rod/rocker/valve tip area. Hydrolic lifters can get out of adjustment over time. I guess it just depends if they are adjustable or not. if they aren't adjustable maybe you have a sticky lifter. it does happen. Have you tried a can of sea foam in the crankcase?
