My steering has a lot of play, I can turn the steering wheel a bit befor the tires actually start turning. What are some fixes for this?

new steering gearbox.
Steering wheel shaft itself is known to cause significant play in the wheel.
ball joints, tierod ends, idler arm, pitman arms.
loose lugnuts :mfr_omg:

Have someone turn the steering wheel just the amount of play, while you watch the steering components from under vehicle.
If something is worn out, you Will see movement between 2 parts where there shouldn't be any.

What both of them said.
Keep in mind, the rag joint, pitman and idler arm you really don't need an alighnment.
The tie rods and tie rod sleeves you need to get an alighnment after changing.
So it may be worth changing all 4 tie rods at once.
