This noise may be the result of the rubbing between the steering column seal and the upper I-shaft. This can cause a rub noise when turning the steering wheel at slow speeds. The connection may need to be adjusted. This is just a suggestion, not a diagnosis. I encourage you to consult with a certified technician for a physical inspection of the vehicle and additional assistance.

I am having a noise too. It actually drives me crazy. I took mine to the dealer two weeks ago and they said they replaced the intermediate shaft and some retainer/clip. Driving around the lot I did not hear it , but on the way home it came back. I just have not had time to go back again. I did mess around with it in my driveway, spraying a little lubricant in a few places, but it has not helped. I traded in a nicely equipped 2010 CX-9 for my 2010 Tahoe LS and kinda regret it in a some ways. This is one of the little things that has disappointed me so far.

Mine has about 31k miles.

@Regency....any updates on this?

It's a shame the silly little problems our trucks suffer from.

I have the same issue on a 2008 Yukon Denali and a 2012 Acadia Denali. The sound is much louder on the Acadia. I also have not had time to take it to the dealer - the Yukon is out of warranty now.

I suppose I can take the Acadia in and, hopefully, they'll provide a better understanding of what is causing this sound.

Not sure what steering wheel fluid is...but you might want to check the power steering fluid.

Anyone find out more info on this?

My noise is actually coming from my steering wheel. It sounds like a squeeking or rubbing when I turn the wheel. Are there internal parts to the wheel that need to be greased? Its not loud but I can hear it with radio down. I tried shooting some wd40 in the holes where you can take off the airbag on the side of the wheel but no luck.

I just called dealership and service guy told me there's nothing inside the wheel that is lubed. He said there are bearings but they dont service them and 9 times out of 10 you have to replace the colum. I dont buy that and im sure it just needs some grease somewhere.

Are you ready for this, $1072 for parts and labor! That's a grand to fix a squeek! Unreal! I will figure something else out!

Wow! Really? Geez. And, not only is that an expensive repair, I guess we don't even know if that's REALLY going to solve the issue, right?

So I did some more research and it looks like my problem is my clock spring. I never thought it was my steering gear and was not going to pay $1000 to fix a squeak.

So instead of $1000, total cost to fix is $75 for part and $125 for labor. $200 is a lot better than $1000. It's unreal what these dealerships try and get away with!
