I could get the work done for under 2k with everything;) if i were u i would look into a respectable trade school. The teachers know what they are doing and the work is virtually free just parts n paint. My hoe is in the list for paint

So, the reason why I didn't have collision was because I'm not paying for my insurance, my mom is, and beggars can't be choosers. I couldn't afford my payments, which haven't gone down since I was 16 (I think around $1500/year without collision). The truck was paid for, and I'm a good driver, so we never expected this to happen.

Anyway, a little update on the estimate:
Gerber collision said it was about 1.8k for parts, 2.2k body labor, 1.1k paint labor, and $750 for paint. The labor charges seem a little high to me... nearly 50 hours at $48 per for the body????? That seems f***ing ridiculous. Should take like 25 hours max, in my mind. Not even that much. And then 25 hours of paint labor @ $48 per AND 25 hours of "paint supplies" @ $30 per hour? WTF is THAT? All of this to paint one quarter panel and door?????

Let me know if I'm crazy or if these guys are.

$48/hr? Sheesh I haven't seen a labor rate that low in 10 years. So that is $5800? That is a steal IMO.

If you want it totaled..... or closer to "demand new, genuine GM parts". As that will push the $ bill $ up there closer to the totaled mark.....!?!?!?

this is wrong. at least in Florida. You have a used car and the insurance company isn't required to fix your vehicle with new OEM parts. This is spelled out in the insurance agreement you sign when you get coverage. They can get used and or aftermarket parts...

Now you can have ANY shop do the repair, which can make it a little higher or lower, but they also have agreements with insurance companies as to what they charge...

again, at least that's how it is in Florida.

Besides it's irrelevant as he DOES NOT have insurance, so making the bill higher won't help him at all...

That may be high, I'm not certain. One thing to consider tho is labor is always expensive and hours rack up quick especially when they're man hours and they have two or more people working on it. Also wouldn't they paint the whole side so it would blend? Where's Regency at? He might be able to find our this bc I think he works at a collision place.

I'm pretty sure our policy says brand new OEM parts, not like kind or quality. I do believe we pay more for this option tho.

yup. that is an option I declined. My body-shop guy is great so I'm ok with him using anything he thinks will be ok.

Mate, i feel your pain, good news is your ok, and your story is the sole reason why my wife drives my 2yr old son around in a Yukon. They're have to be hit by a frigging oil tanker.

Insurance, when i moved here from the UK, i paid $469 a mth for a 02 Tahoe and 06Jetta, full insurance. I had no choice as my wife and I were listed as inexperianced drivers, at the age of 35 yrs of age, point is now i pay now 5 years later $120 mth full insurance with $100 deductable. Insurance is one of those needed evils, curse it when you don't need it, praise it when you do.

As for the repairs, I wish you god speed brother, you can't go wrong with these guys on this forum to help guide in doing the right thing.

... Just glad your ok

Cheers POLO

Geez, sometimes there ARE advantages to being "old" like me. I don't pay anywhere close to that for both of my vehicles in a year. :evillol:

lol well you are twice my age but yes being 26 and having to pay for two insurance bills every 6 months ain't cheap! If you don't mind me asking how much do you pay for yours??
