Yesterday I noticed they both were not locking. They worked prior to this fine as far as I knew. I tried both the remote and the lock buttons inside the vehicle and nothing works. I also checked the fuses for the locks but all were fine. My vehicle is a 06 Denali. Any ideas?

Have you tried locking with the key? If it locks by turning the key, then it's probably the actuator(not sure if that's the correct term). If not maybe something came loose. You can access the tailgate lock by removing the rear panel. You can pop it off, it's just held in place by those compression clips.

I wasn't aware that the tailgate could be locked by key. I just tried it and turning the key in the driver front door only locked that door.

Just took the panel off and everything looks connected like it should be.

Isn't there a keyhole on the rear liftgate? My 02 Yuk has one, but I don't know about the 06 Denali.

Did you take a VOM to the connectors and see if there's power going to the actuators when you hit the button? Just thinking out loud.

Nope not key hole on my 06. I'll have to get a voltmeter and check that tomorrow. I'm just wanting to see if there is power going into the actuator correct? Any particular spot?

my 05 has the same problem. the black actuator is the problem. The dealer does not sell this on its own. Need to buy the entire lock mechanism for $380. Ripoff. You can remove the slider from the actuator and leave the door locked or zip tie it in place allowing the door to open and close but not lock.

I took the panel off mine and checked the actuator conncetion, I get a momentary 12v at the connector when unlocking and locking so it must be the actuator. I ordered a used one on ebay for $60 hopefully it'll work.
