the ANC mic's basically create a artificial filter and lower the output, when I added a sub to mine I was getting a lot of feedback hum. I discovered this was because of the anc mic's, so I disconnected them and not only did it eliminate the hum but it sounded better to me overall.
the active noise cancellation is designed to drown out any exterior noise so you do not hear it, this is done by creating a opposing sound thereby "canceling it out"
so if there is a sssshhh sound around you it creates hhhssss sound.
maybe if you normally listen at low volume this may sound fine but I usually have the radio jamming and there is a noticeable gain in the output with the mics offline.
I didn’t know they had that.

it's only on certain bose equipped models I am not sure what year they started doing it, my Silverado has bose but no ANC
if you have it on your gmt900 then there is 2 little grills above the drivers head in the headliner, 1 is the environmental sensor the other is 1 of the bose anc mic, the 2nd one is on the passenger side not sure where the 3rd one is. I cut the wires under the center console which can be patched back if need be for resale.

when you first start up the tech 2 it ask for year and model then product line. I Googled and it said 3rd vin but that's not an option and looking at this thread it seems like 3rd vin is never an option. I picked k for my 96 tahoe and y for my 08 c6 but those are just random guesses before I made any real changes, I'd like to know forsure I have the right one?

you think it would be the same for a 2011 yukon as well? I haven't actually hooked it up there yet but it's the one I really picked it up for.

just as an interesting thing, I did pick up a clone tech 2 and under the amp modual there's an option to turn noise canceling on and off. just thought that was interesting.
