I use vht and clear on top. Wet sand in between and after coats. Looks amazing everytime.
It's pretty hard to make it look good tho. So I would have someone else do them for you.

I sprayed mine and they looked good, but were pretty dark and hard to see.

I picked up some Spyder LED lights (black housings) and they are sexy and bright.

They were more expensive though...

First, you probably want to see if it is legal in your state. Unless you don't mind the hassle of being pulled over, possibly getting a fix-it ticket, having to fix it and show proof of fixing it. Second, you probably want to make sure that it doesn't affect the color and visibility of your brake and tail lights, unless you don't mind being rear-ended for the sake of looking "cool".

Have had smoked tails on a few rides. Never been rear ended.
Have been rear ended twice , both times with factory tails.
Depends on if the driver behind you is a dumbass who isn't paying attention.

Also depends on how dark and how well done it was. I've seen some blacked out stuff that was brighter then untouched stuff
