8K miles between oil changes?

Frequency is more important for longevity than the whole dino vs syn debbate. Even if you used 99 cent sore oil but changed it at every 2000 miles you'd be better off than going almost 300% overdue for an oil change. Change your oil often. That is the key. Castrol Hi mileage is great oil and the next best thing to Edge which is their full syn. I advise all of my customers to switch over to hi-mileage when at about 90K miles. The syn in the blend helps the seals not leak.

I change my oil every 2000 miles full Castrol Syn Gold. It costs me nothing and my commute is 5-7 miles one way so I do it way more often than most people could afford.

Today's oils are amazing. I remember when Quaker State used to leave a nice sludge build up. Lol. Customers would come in for valve cover gasket replacements and we would show them the sludge and could pretty much tell what oil they were using and then sell them on Pennzoil. That was prior to everyone going synthetic. Manufacturers have also spelled out to oil motor oil manufacturers that the bar ahd to be raised in ter of oil specs. Nowadays I would say that there isn't really a "bad" off the shelf oil out there. No manufacturer wants to put out a product that is incompatable with any vehicle. Even bulk oil at quickie lube places, does have to meet fairly high standards. Otherwise they would be buying motors left and right.

Yup, most off brand oil is usually a name brand oil without the additive package anyway. There are only so many companies who make the base engine oil.

At the last Honda Dealer I worked at we used bulk oul from Kendall.

Yea we had our lincolns wheel beari g or hub go out and was driving yukon everyday to work it's 30 one way . So it racked up quick. I also had a 300 mile one way to pick up my daughter which was twice in one week. SO a quick 1200 miles. No excuse. But Def more miles than usual. We are in the process of buying the wife a 2015 hyundai sonata 2.0t and if we get it the yukon will be hybernating a while which is awesome.

Yeah just be cautious. As these engines wear, the piston rings dont seal as they used to and will dilute the oil with gasoline and blow-by gasses (gasoline) as well as soot (carbon) and they wear your bearings and other tight tolerance oil clearance parts not quite exponentially but that type of oil will cause more damage on a high mileage engine than a new "tighter" engine.

Change your oil often is the key. Oil is only good if it's working and not diluted, suspending tons of carbon and is not broken down.

Yeah I'm gonna get a beater for the warm seasons and put the Tahoe on retirement mode soon too. Take her out once or twice a week. Let her go WOT once a month. Works for my Grandma and she's still kicking.

my philisophy is its never to late to switch to full synthetic
and im of the firm belief that it doesn matter what kind of synthetic you use and who makes the oil filter
whenever ive gone with the cheap synthetic in the past IE castrol,valvoline etc its still noisy after cold starts but with royal, amsoil , mobil 1 i never get those noisy cold starts

the only thing i learned that may happen after switching to full synthetic on a high mileage engine is that it mite expose any oil leaks that may have not leaked had you stayed with conventional this is simply becuase full synthetic on a molecular level is much smaller then conventional oil

Ugh.. Maybe it's the beer. But replacing oil just because isn't a good idea. Truly, if you cared enough, you would do blotter tests. That way you only change oil when needed.

Or just follow manufacturer recommended intervals.

Castrol Edge full synthetic provides better protection than Mobil 1. Just saying. Just because it cost more doesn't mean it's better oil. Amsoil and Royal Purple are better oils than either of course.

Every time I run syn in a high mileage engine I get more oil seepage. I prefer high mileage oil in high mileage engines since its conventional and I watch my change intervals closely.
