I tried, wasn't working out very well for me. But I did achieve a lasting result and I did heat shrink it--no tape .Yeah! Solder that bish!
Nice and shiney.the new pig tail should fix it up. when you patched the wires, was the copper nice and shinny clean, or dull and dirty looking? if dull, you need to keep stripping the wire back till you hit nice new clean wire.
