Tranny Cooler Fan??

Nice, do you know the measurements of the cooler, mine is a 11X11 and it fits perfectly!! Lots of room!

If I recall it's like 10x7x4...ya I think I'll make it fit ;-)

I had one in my Tahoe and I had problems cause it conflicted with the speeds on the e-fans, either the e-fans would push or pull the tranny fan or vice versa. and there was no noticeable gain in having it. What I did is hook it up to a relay and a switch to turn it on manually when the tranny would get hot but it never did even under load uphill with 7-8 people in the truck and a 30' MasterCraft boat. I don't even remember turning it on but once or twice that's it.. I can see it being useful with a mechanical clutch fan where you would be idling and no air being forced thru the cooler and you would want more...

I'm gonna hook it up to a relay and switch as well, and I was curious on how it would work with electric fans! Might be a bit til I get the electric fans so it might be useful now, thanks for your input Chistoso!!
And Boss, you will have no problem making that fit, like i said lots of room!!

Good info Jer, I think I'll switch mine too...but it's a good size cooler over stock and stacked plate design which are very efficient. My pair of 16" efans should pull plenty of air through all the exchangers.

So chist I'm guessing due to the room behind the grill, the tranny cooler fan was mounted closer to the grill....so are you saying your tranny fan was set to push, and the efans were pulling? Sounds like that would work?

The efans are designed to pull air so I had the tranny cooler fan to push but it got interesting when the efans were pulling in more air than the tranny fan could push, one would force the other which led me to believe that if the efans could pull more than the tranny fan could push, it rendered it useless.. Make sense?

Do you remember if you tranny cooler was tight to the radiator/condenser or was there gap? You got me thinking now, I might have to experiement with my placement if I notice the same thing!!

None of the fans on the aftermarke fit so I borrowed one from a car, cant remember which but it was 13" diameter, 2 speed and slim enough where it cleared the grille and cooler by a fraction of an inch. The cooler was right against the Radiator/condenser. It came off a Cadillac Catera IRRC.

Thanks for the info Chist, I'm gonna have to experiement a bit when I do mine, never thought about the fact that the electric fans would over power it! Did you hook the fan up to use both speeds?

High speed only and still over powered by the efans. Even standing still the efans pulled the cooler fan fins to spin.

Yup, I'm thinking it was efficient that way?

That tranny fan would take care of the initial push (and drag) through both the tranny cooler and the ac exchanger. Then the efan would pull hard against that air, and of course through the parts of the main radiator.
