This just happened on the way back from a long trip. Haven't checked fluid yet. Bearings you think? This is an aftermarket front driveshaft that's been there for 15 years. I'll probably try to remove it in a bit. I did notice some play in it up and down at the t case, not at front diff. No lateral movement though.

Check fluid level in Tcase. If its low then its probably too late and the output bearing is going to see god. If the fluid is low then it went somewhere. Likely the pump rubbing on the inside of the rear half of the case and you now have a pin hole. If thats the case then you will need a bearing and seal kit, case rear half (they sell them because of the pump rub problem), the case saver plate to prevent it from happening again, likely a Tcase chain, clutch pack if you have auto 4wd and some internal/external snap ring pliers with a long reach and TCASE fluid. NP246/E cases are stupid easy to rebuild.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a little intimidated in getting in to the TC. I have horrible luck! No doubt I'm going to get the pump run kit.

There are youtube videos step by step on teardown and rebuild of the NP246/E Tcase. Its nothing even close to the difficulty of rebuilding the tranny or a rearend. There really isnt alot to a TCASE. No special tools are needed for the rebuild other than the long reach internal/external snapring pliers.
